Eastern Equine Encephalitis

The AWRSD school health services team was notified from the Westminster Board of Health regarding the recent case of EEE (Eastern Equine Encephalitis) infection detected in a 5 year old horse in town.  The horse had to be euthanized due to the severity of her illness.

Because of this finding it raised the EEE risk level in Westminster to “Critical” and the surrounding communities to “High”.  These risk levels recommend that evening outdoor events be rescheduled until the weather becomes cool enough that mosquito activity will be minimal.

Attached you will find information sheets that will hopefully answer any questions and relieve any concerns you may have.

Sincerely,

Marcia Sharkey RN             Meetinghouse School
Susan Lofquist RN               Oakmont High School
Heidi Williams RN               Overlook Middle School
Jane Flis  RN                          JR Briggs Elementary School
Sue Quigley-Belliveau RN   Westminster Elementary School
Nancy Taylor RN                   ESHS Grant District Nurse
